IT support in the Alentejo

Distance should not mean second-rate IT.

Businesses across the Alentejo often have fewer local IT options than their counterparts on the coast. Modern managed IT is delivered remotely anyway — and we attend sites in the region when something needs hands.

  • On-site across the region
  • Built for distributed sites

The Alentejo business mix

The businesses we support inland

The region runs on a different set of industries from the coast, and it is spread over a very large area — both of which change what good IT looks like.

Agriculture and agri-business

Estates, cooperatives, processing and packing operations with office systems, weighbridges and increasingly connected equipment — often across several sites with variable connectivity.

Manufacturing and industry

Production sites where the office network and the operational one need to be genuinely separated, and where downtime has a direct cost per hour.

Professional firms

Lawyers, accountants and consultancies in Beja, Évora and the district towns, with the same confidentiality obligations as any firm in Lisbon.

Public-facing organisations

Associations, foundations and member organisations that hold personal data and are increasingly expected to show how they protect it.

Rural tourism and hospitality

Hotels, guest houses and wine estates where guest Wi-Fi matters and the nearest fibre connection may be some distance away.

Distributed businesses

Companies with a small head office and people working from several towns, vehicles or sites, who need one consistent way of working.

Local considerations

Distance, connectivity, and not much local competition.

The honest picture: many Alentejo businesses have been making do. The nearest provider is an hour away, the person who set things up has moved on, and nobody has looked at the backups in years. None of that is unusual, and very little of it needs anyone to be nearby to fix.

  • Sites are far apart, so visits are planned and batched rather than casual
  • Connectivity is less consistent, which makes failover worth more than it is on the coast
  • Remote monitoring matters more, because nobody is going to notice a warning light
  • Hardware is often kept longer, so lifecycle planning is a genuine conversation
  • Few businesses have anyone internal who does IT, so processes have to be simple
  • Spares and warranty cover need arranging in advance, not on the day

We claim one office, in Faro. Everywhere else is a service area — described here as what it actually is, rather than dressed up as a local branch.

How distance is handled

Designed so that being far away rarely matters.

  1. Monitor

Continuous monitoring means most faults are found by us before anyone on site notices. Distance is irrelevant to that.

  2. Build in resilience

Failover connectivity, protected power and spare equipment where a visit would take too long to be useful.

  3. Ship, do not visit

Replacement devices arrive configured and enrol themselves on first sign-in, which is faster than any engineer could drive.

  4. Visit with purpose

When a visit is needed we plan it properly, deal with everything outstanding while we are there, and agree the next one.

Why CaminhoIT

The same service as a business on the coast gets.

There is a quiet assumption that rural businesses should expect less from their IT — older equipment, slower help, whoever is available. We do not price or scope differently by postcode. Monitoring, patching, security and backup are the same, and the only genuine difference is how we plan the small proportion of work that needs someone present.

  • Same servicewherever the site is
  • Monitored 24/7nobody needs to spot it
  • Failover plannedwhere lines are fragile

Questions

IT support in the Alentejo — common questions

You are in Faro. Is that not too far away?

For the great majority of support, distance is irrelevant — devices are managed from the cloud and problems are resolved remotely, usually faster than a local engineer could arrive. Where it does matter is physical work, and for that we attend Alentejo sites as a standing part of the service rather than as a special case. The honest caveat is that an urgent visit is a drive, so we design around that: monitoring, failover and spares where a site cannot wait.

Our internet is unreliable. Can anything be done?

Usually, and it is worth looking at properly rather than tolerating. Options include a second line from a different provider, mobile failover on the firewall, and in some rural locations fixed wireless or satellite as a backup path. Failover switches over automatically, normally within a minute. It is one of the cheapest pieces of resilience available and it matters more here than almost anywhere.

We have several sites spread over a wide area. Is that a problem?

No, and standardising them is where most of the value is. Sites set up at different times by different people mean every fault becomes a fresh investigation. Bringing them onto one design gives you one monitoring view, consistent security and much faster diagnosis — and it means a new site is a repeat rather than a project.

Our equipment is quite old. Do we have to replace it all?

Rarely all at once. We start by establishing what is genuinely a risk — anything out of security support, anything holding data with no working backup, anything that would take days to replace — and stage the rest over two or three years against your budget. Extending the life of equipment that is still fit for purpose is usually both cheaper and better, and it is part of how we approach sustainable IT.

Nobody here does IT. Will this create work for us?

It should reduce it. That is largely the point of managed IT: monitoring, patching, backup and security happen without anyone on your side remembering. What we do need is one person who can tell us who has joined or left, and who is authorised to approve things — not a technical role, just a point of contact.

Do you charge extra for being further away?

The managed service is priced per user or per device, the same as anywhere. Where a site needs regular on-site attendance, travel is accounted for in the proposal and stated openly rather than appearing later as a line item. You will see it before you sign.

Ready to get started?

Being outside the city should not cost you service.

Tell us where your sites are and what you run. We will tell you what we would do remotely, what would need a visit, and what that looks like in practice.
